I am pleased to announce the 2013 NSLS Senior Staff team. They will be starting in late May/early June.They are as follows:
Area Supervisor: Southern Region: Jennifer Hood. Jennifer is entering her 19th season with the NSLS. In the off-season, she is the Manager of Aquatics at the Yarmouth YM-YWCA. Affectionately know as "Big Momma" to her staff, she is constantly training and recruiting new NSLS staff.
Area Supervisor Northern Region: Melissa Hyson: Melissa is entering her 10th season with NSLS. She is a National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner. She is a graduate of Acadia University. She has worked at numerous beaches and has medalled at several Canadian Lifesaving Sport Competitions. She has inspired many of her staff to meet her high standards. In the winter, she teaches at Northeast Kings High School.
Area Supervisor Cape Breton: Kieran Gallivan: Kieran is entering his eighth year with the NSLS. He graduated last year with an Education degree from St. Francis Xavier University. He spent the winter lifeguarding on the Gold Coast in Australia, one of the most challenging sites in the world to work as a lifeguard. Kieran demands vigilance and lots of practice from his team of lifeguards on the Cape!!
Assistant Director Administration: Mike Maguire: Mike is returning for his eighth year with NSLS. He has a Bachelor of Recreation Management from Dalhousie University and is (still) working on his Masters of Recreation thesis. Mike is a Lifesaving Society Instructor Trainer and recently worked on the revision team for the new National Lifeguard Award. Mike is responsible for administration, human resources, including payroll, so staff are usually very nice to him.
Assistant Director Technical: Ben Morash. This is Ben's first year as a NSLS Senior staff, but his 9th year with NSLS. He is a National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner and he has lots of beach site experience having worked a many NSLS beaches. Ben has a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and is working to get into a Masters program. Be is an avid swimmer, runner and Lifesaving Sport competition participant.
Public Relations Officer: Lucy Fisher: Lucy is from Truro where she worked as a lifeguard at both the Truro Centennial Pool and the Victoria Park Pool. She is a Public Relations student at Mount St. Vincent and is doing a Co-op term with NSLS. Welcome Lucy!!
